Constructing Safe Environments by Building and Pushing Boundaries

Camp is meant to be a place where campers and counselors go out of their comfort zone, take healthy risks, and grow in community with others. However, the developmental age and stages in which we meet our campers and counselors, means that they may take it too far. Which begs the question: how do we build the community we want and still make camp the fun, healthy, safe and supportive, and risk-taking environment it should be? Using real-life examples of boundary violations, we will address creating community at camp and building environments that promote healthy and safe boundaries.
