Less than one-third of children in North America attend summer camp, and a lot of those campers come from families who are already familiar with camp, from their own experience(s) as campers themselves. But as the demand for quality summer childcare increases, many "first-generation camp families" are approaching camps with curiosity, caution, and concerns that the majority of us "camp people" take for granted. To these families, "Color War" sounds like it should be an art activity! So how do we more effectively meet these families where they're coming from to make camp more approachable, accessible, and desirable? This session will share practical tips for how to engage with First-Gen Families, drawing from both real-world experience and research focused on modern consumer habits.
